superdude superdude superdude asked:
I’ve only been playing online for a short time and haven’t had a chance to enter a tournament yet (I play on Party Poker if that information is needed to answer the question). Thanks in advance.

superdude, the name so nice you say it thrice????
It depends upon the number of participants in the tournament, from one table to one hundred tables, the more who play the longer the tournament and it also depends if it is a no limit or a limit tournament or a re-buy tournament. The biggest time waster in on-line play is these players who take all the time allotted to make up their minds as if the others can see them, I am sure that there are some on-line players who wear sunglasses when playing. You should keep the game moving after all time is money. Good luck
I got into a 8000 player tournament and it took 6 hours to play.. placed 5th
Keep in mind, you weed out the 1st 5000 fish with the 1st 2 hours. Then it gets a bit tighter..
it depends on how well you do. look at how long the blinds will take to increase. usually longer blinds mean longer tournaments. you want the tournament to last as long as possible, cuz that will mean you are winning. good luck.
Depends on the style and number of participants.
Style: Speed, No-limit (NL) , or ‘regular’ (R).
Speed- blinds increase every 5 min. For up to even 3-5,000 participants in a speed NL tournament it’ll be over in one hour and fifteen- One hour and 45 min, tops.
(Note a sit and go single table will take about 1:15-1:45 min, max.)
No Limit- but not speed, blinds go up every 15 min to 30 min. With 11,000 plus it will take about 5 hrs. and fifteen min to 6 hrs and 50 min, max.
Regular. With set high/low bet limits. These can be a grind, still they take 6-8 hrs max as the blinds will eventually eliminate people.
(Note, you want to try and have 1 ½ to 2 times the average amount of the tournament’s remaining players every end of the hour to make a good stab at a win. Take the payoff break, say 225 is the cut off, then take the chips you start with and multiply that by the # of participants, then divide by the payoff cut. So… 11,500 players, times $3,000 = $34,500,000.00 divided by 225 = $153,334 you’ll need to survive and have a shot at making it to the money. Although it often becomes watching who will ‘blind out’ ahead of you.
For the final table you’ll need to be around $3,450,000, but by then the blinds will likely top off at $120,000/$80,000 with around $20,000 ante. So without the big $ you’ll have trouble not blinding out.)
Also a lot of people will begin to ..stall as the $ approaches. The key is to change your game as circumstances change, be willing to fold if you think your beat, and don’t bluff in a bad position or situation where you get trapped.
However, having said that, I was in a 16,000 person on-line, won the first pot, split the next, and then lost an all-in preflop w/AA and ended up with 26 chips left after three hands. Yet I battled back to take second, so it’s all a matter of timing, patience and luck.
To win any tournament, you need to win 5-6 hands by dumb sheer luck out drawing a better hand.
To practice, play in some of the free rolls for $, you win, after 5-6 hrs, or more you win a mighty $25-40, but great practice.
Also in any NL large tournament, (say 6,000 people, ) within 5 min you’ll have 600 to 1500 people gone, and every hour you’ll eliminate about 1/4 to 2/3 of the field. They drop like flies, usually trying to bluff against KK, or over playing small pairs or A-K o.
Hope that helps.
Ive been in multi table tourney of 90 people and can take up to about 2hrs to get to the last table of 9
